The master bedroom suite renovation removed a former 1980’s renovation to create a clean, welcoming environment equal to the retreat escapes they had loved in their travels.

Program:

Provide zones for sleeping, lounging, writing, art collection, mini bar and TV, his & her walk in closets, dressing table, master bath with double vanity, water closet, and large shower - all while fitting within the existing footprint. Concept: Provide a peaceful, parental oasis. Remove all walls and use quiet planes to define a new layout that conceals program elements within architectural forms while appearing restful and simple.

Solutions:

  • A new entry is tucked into the profile of a corridor cabinet original to the house. The axis plane screens views while showcasing art and concealing linen storage.

  • Slender walls create vertical planes that appear to lift the low ceiling height. Voids between adjacent planes house program such as mini bar, TV, shelves and storage.

  • The new fireplace provides a warm sense of center.

  • The natural material palette, selected for its ethereal qualities - harkens to the original historic house. Materials include: plaster, oiled white oak, linen, limestone, woven carpet, low iron glass, blackened steel, pigmented concrete & full-height wood blinds.
